Metaplanet has increased its Bitcoin treasury to 43,000 BTC, strengthening the profile of the Tokyo-listed Japanese company in the global corporate cryptocurrency accumulation frenzy. Bitcoin Magazine reported that the threshold was surpassed on Thursday, July 2, 2026, placing the group behind Strategy and Twenty One Capital among the largest corporate holders. CoinDesk reported that Metaplanet purchased an additional 2,823 BTC in the second quarter, valued at approximately $170.7 million.
The transaction brings the total value of its reserves to nearly $2.6 billion, based on market levels cited by sources, and confirms the company's continued focus on accumulation. The stock market reaction was positive: Metaplanet shares, ticker 3350, closed up 3.5% at 207 yen, or approximately $1.28. The move comes after weeks of renewed scrutiny of cryptocurrency-backed companies, as already highlighted in our update on Metaplanet and the slowdown in purchases during the quarter.
According to company data reported by the two publications, the average purchase price for Bitcoin in the quarter was approximately 12.71 million yen, just over $80,000. Considering revenue from the Bitcoin revenue-generating business, the actual price indicated by the company drops to approximately 12.09 million yen, equivalent to approximately $77,000. The Bitcoin revenue-generating division generated operating revenues of approximately 1.75 billion yen in the quarter, bringing the first-half total to approximately 4.72 billion.
